Welcome!
My name is Jim... Naked Jim to some. I say that I’m just a regular guy living a regular life. "I’m just me" is the phrase
that comes to mind most. Even so, my life has been and continues to be pretty interesting. For starters, I grew up in
New Jersey as a Jehovah’s Witness. I was 21 by the time I finally "got out". You can read all about this in the
section on my life here.
Several years after that I decided to pick up my life and move it half way across the country to Lafayette,
Louisiana, right in the heart of Cajun country. I now call this home.
One of my many personalities is a overly organized self poroclaimed nerd/geek. Computers were a huge hobby of mine
growing up. This eventually developed into a career. I do it all: Everything from networking and servers to SQL
Server and development to application design and analysis. I’m currently a consultant supporting mainly financial
software. It’s definitely something I enjoy. There’s lots of challenges and problem solving, which I love. My
personal opinion is that if you have to work, you should enjoy what you do.
My main passion in life revolves around music. I started playing drums at an early age. From here this grew into
keyboards and eventually guitar. When asked what I play, I usually say guitar as I consider this to be the only
instrument that I truly play well. I’ve been in a handful of bands and enjoy being on stage, but I enjoy songwriting
and being in the studio more. Recently I’ve begun honing my skills mixing and producing. I have a long way to go, but
I love everything I’m learning. You can have a listen to some of my songs on the
music page.
Please have a look around at the site and enjoy. You’ll (eventually) find pictures, stories and music... the things in life that make me who I am.
Why Naked Jim? Are you really Naked?
I get asked this question all the time. People have told me that they think the nickname means anything from being a perverted old man (
relatively speaking) to a party boy who likes to run around naked. Rarely do people know what it refers to straight away. Trust me when
I say that it’s not as exciting as it sounds.
Many moons ago I was working on booking some solo acoustic gigs. In addition to my songs that had been written acoustically, I was
taking the cover songs that I loved and stripping them down to their barest form. I was hanging out with a band who shall remain
nameless discussing my dilema of needing a stage name over shots of tequila. The tequila must have been too good because the first
suggestion was Gym Floor. Thank God that didn’t stick. The obvious choice was a name that matched what I was doing, performing songs
leaving them naked and vulnerable. Naked Jim it was.
The nickname has stayed with me. Personally, I think it’s fitting. I’ve been known to waer my heart on my sleeve from time to time.
I’ve laid my life history out for all to see. My songs also tend to be based on things that have happened to me or my personal
feelings. There aren’t any secrets. I’m naked, there for the whole world to see.
